Viridis Energy Inc. is an alternative energy company, in the "Cleantech" sector of the Toronto Stock Exchange Venture. With current emphasis on the biomass sector, Viridis has established a significant presence in this burgeoning industry. The Company's focus centers around providing biomass fuel to the North American residential and industrial markets. Viridis has established a business model which is unique in the industry and incorporates:
- A seasoned management team with roots in the lumber industry
- Expertise in both manufacturing and distribution of wood pellets
- A plan for addressing the shortage of raw materials
- Ownership of a wood pellet manufacturer and contracted supply with additional plants
- An existing customer base, the largest market of consumers in North America
- Expertise in marketing through existing lines of business and management team
Viridis currently supplies more than 5% of B.C.s wood pellet output to North American customers. B.C. is the largest producer of wood pellets in Canada.
Viridis Energy has made several acquisitions to bolster its leading position in the wood pellet sector of biomass industry. In April 2010 the company acquired Monte Lake Forest Products Ltd. of Kamloops, B.C. A month earlier, in March, the company acquired Westwood Fibre Products Inc., of Kelowna, B.C. In August, 2010 Westwood Fibre Products name was changed to Okanagan Pellet Company. And last year, Viridis acquired Cypress Pacific Marketing, a Vancouver-based private company specializing in the distribution of premium softwood pellets. Cypress Pacific has been producing and distributing Okanagan Pellets™, premium softwood pellets, to the North American market for the past four years.
